June 11: Writing with Eva Gibson, author of YA books Where Secrets Lie, Together We Caught Fire, and released in June 2022: Frightmares
This workshop will explore effective use of dialogue, speech patterns, dialect, and tone in fiction writing. Through writing exercises and discussion, writers will learn to build unique and recognizable character voices, use realistic language based on character background and interactions, and drive a story arc forward via conversation and carefully chosen words. Participants will leave the workshop with an understanding of how a character’s words and interactions reveal their personality and impact relationships, world-building, and story outcome.
Author bio:
Eva V. Gibson is the author of dark contemporary YA novels Where Secrets Lie and Together We Caught Fire. Her YA horror debut, Frightmares, will be on shelves July 2022. A bookworm since early childhood, she has routinely gravitated to stories with grim themes and flawed, complicated characters. She lives in Northern Virginia with her family, and spends most of her time brooding, baking, creating, and parenting, awaiting the day her kids read her books with equal parts excitement and trepidation.
FRIGHTMARES information:
Seventeen year old Dave, coping with both a breakup and the daily disasters of his summer acting job, is thrown into a real life nightmare when his castmate turns up dead—then disappears. FRIGHTMARES releases 07/05/2022 from Delacorte/Underlined and is available for preorder everywhere.
